Top 10 Best Quality Nightstand And Bedside Gun Safes

The Vaultek VS10i is easily the best nightstand safe on the market today. It does a fantastic job at mixing technology, portability, and quality all into a single package. That said, its major downside is its lower than average steel gauge, of which you may want to opt for something like the Fort Knox Original PB1 instead if that is a concern.

With that said, here are all ten of my nightstand gun safe recommendations on the market today, of which there should be at least one that fits our specific situation.

1. Vaultek VS10i Smart Safe

This safe finds its way to the top of many different best lists I have on this site, and this list is no different. The VS10i offers many high-quality entry options like phone access, fingerprint (biometric) access, and even key and keypad entry. If tampered with, your safe will notify your phone, so you can act quickly.

It also backs this up with awesome styling and a high-quality build. Vaultek, as a brand, makes many of my favorite products, and you will find multiple different ones on this list as a result, as they specialize in this type of product.

This VS10i is an enhanced version of the VT10i I that I personally own, after Vaultek was kind enough to gift me one a while back.

2. Konig Home

If the Vaultek VS10i isn’t quite what you are looking for but still want high-tech entry access, the Konig Home will likely be your answer! This safe offers almost all the same access modes, but adds RFID entry to the list of entry options.

This means you can open it with upgradable accessories like a credit card key, or a wristband. On top of this, it also takes a different direction from the metal, as it is constructed of aluminum rather than steel.

I have had quite a bit of experience with this safe, as Konig was kind enough to send one out for me to check out (free of charge), and they did the same years back with the GunBox 1.0 (which was its predecessor), so I now have years of experience on this specific safe.

3. Vaultek Slider

Ahh, yes, the next Vaultek-branded product on this list! However, this Vaultek Slider is far from the same as what we have already talked about. The Slider is built to be bolted to the side of a desk, bookcase, or for what you are likely looking for, a bedside table or nightstand.

Instead of laying a firearm on its side and having a lid pop up, it holds the gun upright, and then the drawer slides out towards you. As you would expect, the Slider still offers the same excellent access options that you would expect from the brand and quality. Of course, it still is a Vaultek, meaning you get plenty of tech-oriented options built into the safe, just like the VS10i.

This might be an excellent option if you want something more concealed than an average bedside safe.

Fort Knox is famous for its high-end, full-size gun safes. However, they also have some incredibly excellent pistol safes as well. If you are looking for a bedside safe and never plan on moving from its spot, the Original PB1 by Fort Knox is probably your best bet.

This heavy-duty pistol safe tops out at 23 pounds, which is incredibly heavy by pistol-safe standards. This is achieved by being built with ten gauge steel, making it the thickest steel option on this list!

On top of its incredible weight, it also has one of my favorite locks, the Simplex lock. Meaning you get the quick access of an electronic lock with the reliability of a mechanical lock.

5. Amsec PS1208EZ

If you want something a bit lighter than the Fort Knox PB1, but similar capabilities, the Amsec PS1208EZ is a fantastic alternative.

It maintains that same Simplex locking mechanism; however, it sheds about half the weight by using 14 gauge steel instead of 10 gauge, making it ever so slightly more portable if you want to use it as a double-use unit.

It also benefits from a carrying handle, making it a bit easier to carry around (still not overly recommended).

6. ShotLock Shotgun 200M

3.5
Pros:
  • Quick Access
  • Unique design
  • Handles larger firearms
Cons:
  • Firearm is exposed
Specifications:
  • External Dimensions: 6.13″ High by 2.38″ Deep by 7.5″ Wide
  • Internal Dimensions: N/A
  • Weight: 5.24

This incredibly unique safe is a very different take on how you can secure your firearm! While staying compact, it can keep larger rifles safe by covering up the rifle’s trigger with the safe, and mounting it to the wall.

While the safe doesn’t use a Simplex lock, it uses a similar style lock to a Simplex, meaning it should be relatively easy to use, and great reliability. It also has a backup key lock, so you know you will be able to get in.

7. Longhorn LNS2618

3.5
Pros:
  • Heavy duty
  • Both a safe, and a diversion safe
  • High quality components
Cons:
  • Doesn’t match other furniture
  • Large
  • Expensive
Specifications:
  • External Dimensions: 26″ High by 20″ Wide by 18″ Deep
  • Internal Dimensions: 15.4″ High by 15.5″ Wide by 7.5″ Deep
  • Weight: 150 pounds

Yes, I know; this is an article about nightstand safes that attach to a nightstand. However, what would happen if your nightstand was the safe?

That’s where the LNS2618 by Rhino Metals comes into the picture. This awesome nightstand is a place to keep your lamp and for keeping your firearms, valuables and more safe. This unit come with all the features you expect from a full-size safe, like the steel thickness (14 gauge) and a quality locking mechanism (SecuRAM).

At 150 pounds, it would also be the heaviest and most difficult safe to remove from your home (you still should bolt it down though).

8. Vaultek MXi

4.5
$599.99

  • Many lock options to choose from
  • Larger pistol safe
  • Modular interior
  • Alerts for tampering, humidity and temperature
Cons:
  • Extremely expensive for the capacity
Specifications:
  • Lock: Biometric, Phone, Keypad, Portable button, Backup key
  • Dimensions: 15” High by 11.6" Wide by 11.5" Deep

If you liked the Vaultek VS10i, which we discussed at the top of this article, but want something bigger (that can hold more handguns), then the MX series will be your best bet! This thing is enormous (for a pistol safe), but not too huge, so it can still fit onto your nightstand.

You can fit multiple firearms (up to eight) and other accessories as well, including pistol pegs and other gear. That makes this perfect if you want your little safe to be more than just pistol storage. It comes with all the Vaultek features, such as multiple access methods, internal lighting, and tamper alerts directly to your phone.

9. SnapSafe Under Bed Safe (Large)

4.5
$599.99

  • Fits larger firearms
  • Great alternative to large safe
  • Fits under your bed
Cons:
  • Not able to fit on nightstand
  • Not quite as quick access as other options
Specifications:
  • External Dimensions: 40″ Wide by 6″ High by 22″ Deep
  • Internal Dimensions: N/A
  • Weight: 105 pounds

The Snapsafe Underbed safes are an excellent option if you want something underneath your bed. Instead of sitting on top of your nightstand, they bolt to the floor just underneath your bed. You lower yourself down when needed and quickly access your safe.

The size of the safe also allows for longer firearms to be kept close by to you at night and more items to be kept in it, other than just firearms. If you don’t want or have the ability to have a full-size safe, this might be a great way to have it all.

10. SecureIt Fast Box Model 47

4.5
$379.00
Pros:
  • Can fit rifles
  • Cradle Grid Technology
  • Quick access
  • Multiple ways to use
Cons:
  • Can’t fit on a nightstand
Specifications:
  • External Dimensions: 6 3/4″ High by 47 1/4″ Wide by 13″ Deep
  • Internal Dimensions: 6 1/4″ High by 47″ Wide by 11 3/4″ Deep

It’s no secret that I like SecureIt products; they make some of the best and most innovative ones. They do a great job of mixing security and usable products. The Fastbox 47 is just as easy to use by being bolted underneath the bed or vertically between your bedside stand and your bed itself.

This safe has an electronic, easy-to-use keypad. It can fit two rifles or shotguns in its vertical option (with an added accessory). Using it horizontally, you can fit a single rifle and other items on the floor.

What do you need in a nightstand safe?

Still not sure which gun safe is best for you? Here are some things I think about when looking for some of the best safes on the market. You’ll need to decide which aspects are most important to you and then review my list to see which fits best in your situation.

1. Quick access and easy-to-open

Getting quick access to a bedside safe is the most critical aspect of a safe in this category. You need to make sure whatever lock is on the safe is easy to use in both a rush and probably in the dark. Like true mechanical lock safes, many safes tend to take time and a steady hand. Both lend poorly to what you need in a time of need. Because of that, electronic, Simplex and biometric locks are extremely popular in the nightstand safe category.

2. Reliability

You need to ensure the safe you buy will open whenever you need it to. When you are keeping a firearm beside your bed, you likely have it there to use immediately! If your safe can’t live up to that standard, then what is the point in having it in the first place? The best way to make sure you can trust your lock, is to trust the manufacturer itself. Only purchase safes that are built by well-known brands.

3. Smaller size

Most of the time, you will want a pistol safe that is smaller in profile than many other safes. You have to think about the fact that it will take a good portion of your night table. There are ways around that, like underbed safes (that were at the end of this guide) and safes that bolt to the nightstand.

4. Thicker steel

One of the remarkable things about a bedside safe is that it does not need to be portable. Generally speaking, you will have bolted it to a nightstand or even the floor, meaning you won’t take it with you. This means you can have thicker steel than a safe you intend to take! As we have found in this article, safes like the Fort Knox PB1 are perfect for this.

5. Ability to be mounted and bolted down

A bedside safe needs the ability to be bolted down to the associated nightstand. If your safe isn’t bolted or tethered to the nightstand, anyone, including thieves or children, can easily carry it away, making for a dangerous situation.

Nice things to have on a nightstand

Of course, some features may not be necessary, but they are nice to have! So here they are:

1. Tamper alerts

This feature is something that only a few safes have yet; however, some on this list do! Tamper alerts can come in the form of just an annoying beep, but they can also be notifications sent to your phone when you are away from home. A great example of a company that offers this is Vaultek.

2. Remote Access

If you are looking for your safe to be a controlled access box, then a remote access option might be something you want. It means you can open the safe for someone, even if you aren’t there next to it (even in a different country). This feature is debated in the industry, though, as there aren’t many times that this can help, but many times where it may hurt.

Why a nightstand gun safe may not be suitable for you?

Nightstands and bedside safes aren’t for everyone! If you need to fit many items into a safe, one of these probably is not for you. You will likely want to buy a large, full-size gun safe.

Conclusion

So there you have it; these are the things you should think about when buying a bedside safe and the bedside safe that might work best for you! I hope it has helped point you in the right direction and helps you stay safe at home!
